I'm thinking about getting an iPhone, but there 's something appealing about the open-source apps T-Mobile and Google are allowing for their new phone.
Anyone have any 1st-hand experience with it? |

A good friend of mine from work just got one a few weeks ago and he's ape shit over it. He says it rules. I want one too.

I got one the day it came out. So far I like it tons. The multiple inputs (trackball, keyboard, touch screen) are so so handy for interacting with your phone exactly how you want. It's not perfect; the simplicity of an iphone will always be amazing, and the iphone app store is better stocked at this point, but I don't have any regrets.
Except when I dropped it an hour ago on the sidewalk. Luckily it's just got a scruffy corner now, but still. So my advice: go play with one at the store, and then buy that ish. And that's totally out of selfish "the more people that own it the cooler it will be" sentiment. |

Thanks - that's what I was thinking about. I've played around with the iPhone, and for how cool it is, I actually don't like the touch screen. My fingers are too clumsy I guess. I couldn't type on it very well - kept missing letters, etc. I like the idea of a physical keyboard. |

Talk to me about T-mobile's plans and reception. I pay very little for my US Cellular plan but I'd consider switching to T-mobile if the reception is better and the plan isn't stupidly expensive.

T-mobile is ok. I think I pay $40ish a month for regular service. I don't know what it would be for an upgraded connection.
I've never had any real service problems going on 4 years. |

I've been with T-Mobile for about 8 years now and they have been absolutely awesome in terms of service. I travel all over the country and can't remember a place where I didn't get good reception. I would highly recommend them.

I've had T-Mobile service off and on for a while, and the reception is great. From Hawaii to remote New Hampshire, it worked fine. However there are pockets of no bars (ie. even more remote parts of N.H.)

I've had t-mobile since 01 and while I've found a few places where there's no service they usually cover places that I'm at. Particularly in Chicago where I believe they took over the old Vodaphone network so it's really built out.
They are cheap too. I was offered a 20% work/group discount with Verizon and T-mobile was still cheaper both on phones and rates. Their home page is kinda shitty for paying on line since they won't store your bank or CC information unless you agree to do the Auto-deduction which I never ever recommend for anyone... But entering in my CC# manually every month is not a big deal. I like T-mobile. But since everyone uses a cell phone in different places for different reasons your mileage may vary. As far as the G1 phone goes I liked it's manual qwerty keyboard but didn't bite on it as it felt strange in my hand I might try it again later when I get some $. I couldn't for the life of me text on the i_phone. I have must have too thick a set of fingers or something. I've heard some luke warm reveiws on the G1 Reviews |
