If you have not heard This American Life's latest episode, and would like to have the last 2 weeks of Wall Street explained in a way that's easy to understand without being pedantic, check it out. It's called "Another Frightening Show About The Economy", is still avail. on iTunes for free, and talks about multi-trillion dollar segments of our economy--neither having much of anything to do with mortgages--that 99% of folks don't know exist, and how a hiccup in those two segments triggered what's happening to us right now. Pretty fascinating.

I am very glad that TAL is introducing people to the crazy, insane beast that is the Credit Default Swap. It's nuts, totally unregulated, and destined for Really Bad Things (tm). The more people who know about it, the sooner we can get a handle on what to do about it.
