Default guitar hero guitars...

i just bought an XBox 360 on Ebay, basically for 2 reasons - guitar hero and dead rising.

i'm looking on ebay for guitar hero, and here's my question - do the guitars for guitar hero work with any version? Some of the guitars for sale on ebay will say "guitar hero II - guitar only, no game" - but if I bought that guitar, it would work with guitar hero III, right? and guitar hero guitars also work with Rock band, correct?

Yes, the guitars work with any version of the game. I will sell you my copy of dead rising if you don't have it yet. I don't know what it's worth but i'll give it to you for a little under what you'd pay on e-bay, and I can just meet you at the theater if you want to buy it. If you do have it - isn't that game sweet!

Eric, I've played it before, but I haven't bought it yet. It was so fun, I've been jonsing for it for a year and a half! a quick look at ebay shows most of the bids for it hovering somewhere between the $15-20 mark. If you want to PM me and let me know what you want for it, we can set it up.

Thanks for the info about the guitars, too. that's what i assumed, but i wanted to make sure before i threw down the cash.

One thing to be aware of is one difference between Guitar Hero guitars and Rock Band guitars.

Rock Band guitars have 5 extra fret buttons, near the body of the guitar, designed for solos, specifically. You don't need to use them, but they can be useful on some of the trickier solos. If you're buying the Rock Band bundle, though, you already get one of these guitars anyway, so your second guitar could easily be a Guitar Hero guitar. Just something to be aware of.

Also, the RB guitar's buttons have a slightly different feel to them, compared to the GH guitar. The RB design allows you to slide your fingers back and forth more easily, but I feel like they're a bit stiffer. I can play a GH guitar all day no problem, but my fret hand fingers were sore after a while when I first tried the RB guitar.

P.S. Anyone else having difficulty with the timing of the bass kick footpad for the drums? I do have good rhythm, so it's not me just missing the beat, but I'm just not getting the hits to count half the time on the footpad. I can get the stick hits in fine, and guitar strumming fine. Anyone have any suggestions?

Should I just go ahead and get Rock Band or Guitar Hero III, or should I start out with GH I? I've played GH a total of about 20 minutes, and I can't play guitar at all, so I'd likely be enthralled with GH I, and can work my way up to GH III, right?

You could "work your way up" I guess, but really, you should just get Rock Band.
