Just curious. Do you find that your intro music helps with the energy of your show? Do have a specific type of music you like to hear before you go on? Do you leave it up to whoever is in the booth or do you put thought into it? Also what are your top songs?
I find high energy songs at the top bring a high energy that does affect the show in a good way.
I find high energy music is good for the performers and the audience.
Unless you're doing Improvized Buddhism or something.

I really like walking out to The Horror (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq38_MFTEm0) by RJD2.

Anything really high energy, but especially Back in Black by AC/DC.

We're currently using Bon Jovi's Bad Medicine for Batterymouth's run at the Apollo Studio and it seems to be working pretty well. I've also been a big fan of Outkast's Hey Ya and B.O.B.
I've got to say, I really kind of dig it when a show has a signature song that the cast comes out to. If you only see the show once, you have no idea, but if you're a regular, it's kind of like you're part of an inside secret.

I agree! I always love to hear those opening strains of "The Way You Make Me Feel" when I go to see Felt. A few weeks ago, Jorin was not there, and when the song came on and I didn't get to see his child like skip around the stage, I was so disappointed.

I really like "Little Green Bag" and "I Gotcha", both of the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack.
There was a time when it seemed like every show I went to had the cast entering to Kanye's "Stronger". I didn't hate that time, but I don't miss it either.
"Let me clear my throat" aka "Throatclearer"

Bad to the Bone
Welcome to the Jungle
Jump, Jive and Wail
America, Fuck Yeah
Almost any high-energy song works, but be careful not to use something that might unduly influence the suggestion. Whirled News was baffled by the five in a row suggestion of "banana" until we looked at our intermission playlist and realized that Gwen Stefani song was in there.... we took it out and no more "bananas."

I have to say, when Iron Maiden's The Trooper was on our old 5b CD, it made George McAuliffe and I really happy. There's a built in sound of charging to it -- thank you, Crimean War.

"Move aside, and let the Man go through, let the Man go through."
This mindset is a recipe for some fantastic improv.

Book ending a show with up tempo music, especially if it's a good set, can really positivity charge your show. I like when the beginning of Mr. Blue sky plays on the last black out of the show.
This is assuming you are not a super slow and patient show.

'Is You is or is You Ain't My Baby'
'Chick Habit'
i used to enjoy walking out to 'Barracuda' and describe my family life for 40 minutes with gentle humor and anecdotes, but SOMEONE ruined that for everyone.
