And now for the info.....

Playback Theatre is a very unique form of improvisational theatre in which personal stories are taken from the audience and then played back to them through metaphor and other theatrical devices using improvised movement, dialogue, imagery, and music. It is a style all its own—but can also be used to strengthen the skills that are necessary in any actor's or improviser's tool-belt. No other workshop of this kind is being offered in the Chicagoland area. Learning the specific skills required in playing back others' stories, makes one a better listener, connects one with genuine emotions on stage, and makes one a more intuitive performer.

This introductory workshop on Playback Theatre is taught by Amanda Rountree—a performer and teacher of the playback style for ten years. Amanda was the co-artistic director of Playback Theatre Northwest (in Seattle) for five years and an ensemble member of PTN for nine years. She has attended and performed at playback conferences in the US and Japan and taught at gatherings in Oregon and Washington. Her passion for personal storytelling comes through—not just in her work with Playback—but in all of her performances. She's a professional improv performer of sixteen years and teacher of ten years. Since moving to Chicago a year ago, she has been seen on stage with Impress Theses Apes, Beast Women, Don't Spit the Water, and Damascus Steel. She is currently an instructor with Lifeline Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, and the Second City Teen and Youth Program.
