My Kryptonite U-Lock has rusted. I can't get the damn thing off. I don't know what to do. I've tried oil. I think the key is starting to twist from trying. I'm sure I'm not the first person this has ever happened to. What do I do?

I know there's a former or current bike thief somewhere on this board who can come over to Lincoln Square and help me out!
Please?

I'll let you have one of my Second City comps in return!

From what I hear (and I've never had to try this yet), you can take a car jack and open it- jack it up between the U-Lock brace and the U. Should break eventually. Neat, hunh?

I'll totally try it as soon as my roommate get home with her car! Thanks!

I don't know what kind of "oil" you used, but you might want to try WD-40. There's also got to be some kind of rust solvent that eats it away at the hardware store.

Is it an Old U-Lock? Can you jack it open with a Pen? Give that a shot if it's an old lock with the circle-key.

there's a stuff called penetrating oil that's made to cut through rust. soak it on and let it sit. tap it with a hammer and then try to work the lock.

Or call the kryptonite folks - maybe you can get a new lock and some good press (old lock refuses to give up even when rusted)
