Manager of Guest Programs

Responsibilities:
The primary function is to manage and lead a team charged with developing and implementing programs and experiences designed to engage guests in current science and exhibit content. The Manager is charged with supporting a creative environment that leverages the opportunities throughout the exhibits, venues such as Earth Revealed and the Science Theater, and portable stages to enhance and support guest participation and conversation about exhibit content and scientific developments. This function includes the management and coordination of all demonstrations, presentations and theater performances. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


Manages team members including facilitators, coordinators and interns
Defines and administers interview and audition process and selection of team members in collaboration with Human Resources
Coaches and trains team members on improvisational skills, inquiry-based methodology and science content
Manages and/or assists in writing and directing science-based sketches and improvisation activities for guests
Manages content development and training for live science experiences, facilitated exhibit experiences, floor performances, science theatre and other venue-based activities in supportive creative environment
Ensures effective processes for experience development and establishes necessary training for facilitated experiences
Manages teams towards guest-centered decision making and actions; drives teams toward excellence, in analysis and decision making; and builds strong team collaborative environment
Remains apprised of current science, engineering, technology and medicine developments in the news
Manages team schedules and meetings, conducts team meetings
Coordinates with all Guest Experiences and Education teams
Executes project plans and implementation plans as project manager and manages, prepares and tracks budgets
Manages intern programs that support floor experience work
Communicates with all stakeholders (external and internal)
Facilitates regular internal meetings of teams to ensure strong communication and collaboration of team members

Qualifications:

Masterís degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have demonstrated successful collaboration experience and have strong team management, team performance maximization skills, negotiating skills, and project management skills
Must have a strong affinity for science, technology, engineering and/or medicine and be able to learn and maintain a working knowledge of scientific concepts, and current science news
Must have ability to coach team members on guest engagement strategies, performances, and in using inquiry-based methodologies
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be positive and solution-focused with creative problem-solving skills
Must have successful experience in working with diversity of skills, professions and cultures
Must be able and willing to work weekends
