If a show is never even picked up, does it count as cancelled?

This is a very weird time in L.A. An agent assistant friend of mine sent me a CD-ROM with a 140 pilot scripts. One hundred and forty pilot scripts.

And those were just the ones that were in development as of March. Plus, you can't drive across town without passing some pilot shooting on a street or taking over a restaurant.

It all comes crashing down in about a week, when the networks start announcing their fall slates. Will the cavemen make the cut? I dunno. But ABC probably has 20+ shows to pick from, and for sure, they don't have 20 hours of primetime to fill, with so many shows coming back. The only mortal lock is the Grey's Anatomy spinoff with the Sexy Redhead NeoNatal Doctor.

Note: Many, many people in L.A. have very nice houses, paid for pilots that never lived a minute past May 15.

This concludes your brief tutorial on pilot season.
