Just thought I'd throw a few pictures in here. We had rehearsal today and actually managed to scrimmage with another team. It became very clear, very early on that we're there to play some ball this year!

Here's some action shots from the practice!

Yep, that's the ball passing right by the first baseman and directly in front of our coach! Hilarious.

1. Biddle, if you call it rehearsal one more time, you're getting an atomic wedgie. For serious. It's called practice.
2. Crescent, your husbo is an animal. And a shortstop.
3. Aneg, the ladies do not come to practice for some reason, but we actually do need a few ladies for the squad.

seriously Biddle. Softball will kill you in your sleep if you keep calling it that.

also, Biddle, in the future:

-you wear uniforms, not "costumes."

-it's a game, not a "show."

Seriously, man up.

Also, it's a "softball bat" not "a manstick made for your hands."

geez.

I think I see the problem here. You've been pleading the case to our General Manager, not our coach. Bret Lyons is our coach. Sometimes, we let Tyler coach First Base, but that's more of an honorary title.

Having some ladies on your team is league mandated. If you don't have any ladies on your team, you can play, but you take an out at the end of your batting order. So, it's better to have a couple of girls on your team, so that you can cover your bases (so to speak).

Yes, yes, yes, come out and play.

We play on Wednesdays at either 5:20pm or 6:30pm at the ballparks at the corner of Montrose and Lake View Drive. The 5:20 games are hard on us. Our total numbers are pretty low. We could really use some extra folks for those game days.

Wear clothes that you can get sweaty and dirty.

Also, ladies are allowed to use gloves. In fact, they probably should. Higgins has a spare glove, maybe you could talk him into letting you borrow it.

PM me your email addy and I'll forward it onto Coach Bret. He'll add you to to the email list and we'll have you rockin' and rollin' out there, as early as next week.

Ask Elizabeth. Win or lose, it's a blast!

Cheers,
COB

PS. Kiss my ballbag, Hendo!

I don't know if she'd qualify since she's not an improvisor or theater member, but my girlfriend Leslie kicks ass at softball. She's played for Briar St. Theater for years, on the Blue Man team.
She plays first base for them, she's that good.

If Briar St. is in a different league then there wouldn't be a conflict.
She may be interested, ..as well as I.

What say you?

gloves are for pansies.

BigHig
05-03-2007, 05:52 PM
Does she still play for them Edison? Basically, the rule is that she cannot play on 2 different teams in the same league. So, if she plays for BlueMan on wednesdays, she can't play for us. But if she plays on Mondays for Blue Man, she's fair game.

Last night, the Playground Softball team beat their first opponents, The Chicago Theater. Final score; !2 - 9.

Obviously, this is the first time that the team has begun the season with a win.

Also, for the time being, we're undefeated!

We're learning how to tighten up our infield defense and our sluggers are learning how to hit tight drives to the outfield, instead of lazy, hanging pop flies.

All in all, it was a very good game! Only a single coach tripped over his own feet and fell down for no good reason!

Things are looking up!

Good Job, PLAYGROUND SOFTBALL TEAM!
You sure know how to handle your balls!

That coach was me.

I fell down...because i play hard and I play to win.

I will not even accept softball insults from Biddle, a guy who is pretty sure he is playing left field (this isn't stage directions Chris)

in my opinion, you guys all played perfectly. way to go.

also, i think we should all get at bat music.

Awesome!
I'm only sorry we couldn't get on the roster and play last night.
Leslie worked downtown until 7, and I attended a school play my daughter was performing in.

But we're both still down for playing on Wednesdays. The Briar St. team plays in the Monday night league, so there's no conflict for her.

Like I said, Leslie is a ringer. Softball is her sport of choice. She's a solid first baseman and she can hurl a ball from the outfield into home plate.

It's just a matter of getting on the roster if it's not too late.

Thanks for calling me up from AAA. Brett is always good for that. Good luck this season.

I think that the ladies in particular did really awesome yesterday.

The ladies did quite well. I think Gena was like 3 for 4 or something and ended the game with bruises and blood. You would have thought she was in a UFC match.
