View Full Version : Not Very Cool

Hey everyone,
This was a pretty busy weekend for the community and for the most part I had a pretty darn good weekend. Only one thing stopped it from being a GREAT weekend.
On Saturday night International Stinger had a show at the Playground. They performed with Feast of Pedro and Homey Loves Chachi. That's a pretty great line up right there.

I got to the Playground around 7:45, Met the Stingers outside and warmed them up. I was wearing my new Washington Generals track suit jacket (because we bought them to wear in our CIF show that same night in the Skybox at 11) in the front pockets were my phone and iPod.

On with the story,
Stinger show ends. I put all my belongings in my bag and leave it in the greenroom. Take my notebook and my team outback and give them notes.
When we finish notes, we all go back into the theater to watch the shows. At the end of Feast of Pedro I head back to the greenroom to get my stuff and head out to the Skybox to meet my team by 10.

Here's where it gets shitty...
I go through my bag to make sure I have everything. My iPod is gone.
I don't know if you know this about me, but I like music.
Next to my bag (which was on top of that mini-fridge in the greenroom) was a 5 dollar bill. A lot of people leave their belongings on top of that fridge, but who leaves money out in the open like that? I didn't take the five dollar bill, but I think some clever person "traded" a five dollar bill for my iPod.

Not very cool.

If you happen to have any information about this I'd appreciate it.

thanks,
bob

If we can't trust each other, whom can we trust?

That's just shitty Bob, sorry that happened to you.

FESS UP YOU BASTARDS!!!

I can't IMAGINE any of our teammates stealing Bob's iPod!! Perhaps it was a stray audience member?

I'm sorry to hear about that, Bob. That's awful! It is an absolute shame when that happens in our community. I had a jacket stolen at IO once, but that isn't nearly as bad as an iPod. Still, it makes you a little more sad about fellow improvisers and audience members.

I'll solve the five dollar thing mystery. I left the five, because I swiped a couple of the tall boy lites in the fridge. I wanted to pay back whomever did the heavy lifting of the booze. So it wasn't some sick twisted pay for ipod thingie.

Sucks ass Bob.

I didn't take your ipod. I got my own. And it's got really shitty music on it.

I have no idea who would have/could have done it.
The green room is near the back door. In the past, people have come in the back door and taken things. It's kinda my own fault for leaving my bag in the greenroom BUT isn't that what greenrooms are for?

It's all dumb and puts me out 300 bucks. boo.

That SUCKS. I think they should get lockers. Alana had her bag stolen from there once. Bogus.

Glass half full: Pretend your battery was about to die and you'd have to pay for a new one anyway.

Glass half empty: we're improvisors...we're poor. Let us keep our expensive toys, please. If you find out who did it, ask them if they're also the a-hole that stole Deanna's wallet.

I really want to believe that it was an outsider who wandered in and stole the goods.

Wasn't that what happened the other time?

Cause that makes me sad to think that we would steal from one another.

I'm so sorry Bob that happened to you.

I guess we need to keep our belongings on us or find a trusting audience member to keep an eye on our stuff while we bring them joy and laughter.

Arlo is still way cute :)

Stealing an iPod from Bob is like stealing paint from, like, an awesome painter. Or from a guy who totally loves paint.

Either way, it's a d-bag move.

I am taking a strong stand against this theft!

Thanks Everybody -
and sorry to hear about Deanna's wallet.

Pete, thanks for explaining that five spot. I really was hoping the justification I made up in my mind was an overactive imagination. I'm glad that it was.

But I'm not glad my ipod is gone.

You guys, on the other had - are all great.
thanks,

bob

I am sorry about your pod. Very sorry.

The way the story was going, I thought you were going to say someone took your Wash Gen jacket in which case I was on the brink of tears.

And I have to admit I was somewhat relieved when you said it was your ipod and not your nice nice jacket.

but i'm sorry to hear about your nice nice ipod.

hugs.

Dear Bob,

This sucks. Now, some jerk is either influenced by your music taste, or his/her mind has exploded from the eclectic tunes held within said iPod.
Good luck in finding the culprit or a cheap iPod. Whichever is easier.

This is the kind of thing where as the thief (or the black-market purchaser) listens to the music therein, he slowly realizes that a life of crime is not his karmic assignment, and turns to volunteerism, traveling the Chicagoland area and eventually the earth, facing mirror images that are not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better... putting things right which once went wrong, searching always for the nameless soul who changed his life, who promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire...

like the episode of Friends when Monica becomes friends with the lady that steals her identitytifdy??? Ross is cute. Theifs suck.

All Must See TV jokes aside, this is terrible. I am pretty morally flexible on many issues but not theft. It's shady and mean and wrong.

Bob,
I know how cruel this particular theft is to you. I openly and honestly pledge $20 to the Bob Ladewig iPod relief fund. I would also like to offer a spindle of blank CDs. You can make a kick ass mix CD of superdope jams us music mortals don't know. Then you should give them as gifts to people who contribute to your iPod fund.
Its important to have someone passionate like you venture through the outskirts of music to bring back the gold to the rest of us music lovers. So to me, its worth it.

I agree. I'm in for $20

I'd give $20, only if I get the mix cd.

Yeah,
these stories are very disheartening.
I have NEVER had anything of mine stolen from any green room in the improv universe.
and I am really bad about leaving my stuff around.
some times I will leave my bag at the bar even If I know I have to go outside to give/take notes...

this is probably not the smartest thing to do in the world.

but anyhow.
If anyone is caught stealing from anyone else in this community...
I think we should totally ostricize them.
seriously.
I hope this was an audience member...
and not an improviser.

I will gladly make mix cd's for anyone/everyone - and while you guys are being very kind about an iPod fund for me, I think that's too much.

I appreciate all the nice things said here, but I don't think people need to start a fund. In reality, I just want to know what happened to the ipod and how it got to wherever it ended up...

Matt Malinsky has donated an iPod he won in a work raffle a little while ago - to get me through until I can purchase my next one. Thank you, Matt. The ride to work today was much, much more enjoyable.

There's a lot of nice people in this community. You guys rule.

One more bit of info to throw on the pile, it was a warm night and the back door was open for a while. (Not unusual.) And Bob had placed his bag on the fridge, right beside the door. It would've been very easy for someone to walk in, snatch the ipod and then book out without being seen.

Especially when International Stinger was out there, redefining Improv for contemporary audiences and blowing their minds up. I fear that our masterful command of the improvisational arts, was the "looky" to some anonymous ipod bandito's "loo".

Also, a purse was stolen by some backdoor thief from that very same spot, a few years ago.

Boo.

Bob,

As a fellow iPod-loser (stolen out of my car, with my work computer and a bunch of other shit), I sympathize--what kind of rotten asshole does that?

When you're looking to buy a new one, $399 is a lot to swallow. The Apple Store usually has refurbished ones that are pretty cheap, and I think they still carry the warranty.

Sometimes they have them in the store, but they're available online, too:

Clicky. (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=32DAAC51&nclm=Certified)

Good luck, and let's hope karma gets the thief something nice, soon.
