IMPROV 101 will focus on the basics of comedy improvisation: team-building, trust, speed, status, active listening, and agreement. You will learn to be fearless and have fun on stage using the DSI approach to improv comedy.
IMPROV 201 builds on the fundamentals of scenework. Begin to focus and develop character and relationship in scenes. Learn to raise the stakes of otherwise ordinary situations by exploring patterns of interaction and the game of the scene.

Zach Ward has been performing and directing improv comedy professionally for over a decade. Executive Producer of the DSI Comedy Theater, Founder and Executive Producer of North Carolina's Dirty South Improv Festival, Chapel Hill native and proud Carolina graduate, Zach has been employed as Associate Producer for the Chicago Improv Festival (2003-2006) and Director of Education for ComedySportz Chicago (2003-2004).
As a performer, Zach has received critical acclaim from the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Tribune for his performance with DUAL EXHAUST (Critic's Choice, Highly Recommended, Super CageMatch Champion 2003-2004, Top 10 "Most Influential Comedy Duos of the Past Decade") and THE BEATBOX (Critic's Choice, Best Bet, Chicago Improv Festival w/ Mo Collins). Zach can currently be seen performing with MISTER DIPLOMAT, COMEDYSPORTZ NORTH CAROLINA, and surprise 2-person shows including CAJONES during BEST SHOW EVER at the DSI COMEDY THEATER.
Zach has studied the art of improvisation with Todd Stashwick (Burn Mahattan), Mick Napier and Susan Messing (Annoyance), Bob Dassie, Craig Cackowski and TJ Jagodowski (ImprovOlympic), Matt Besser (Upright Citizens Brigade), Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live), Michael Gelman (Second City), and with every student he teaches.

No comedy or theater experience necessary. 101/201 INTENSIVE runs from 10:00am until 4:00pm MONDAY - THURSDAY with an hour break for lunch at 1:00pm; INTENSIVE runs until 1:00pm FRIDAY July 4th. JULY SHOWS ARE FREE for INTENSIVE students.
** ANYONE who has participated in the Dirty South Improv Festival should register for the 101/201 INTENSIVE at the student rate. DSI will 100% help you have more fun improvising (WHEREVER YOU PERFORM) and the intensive would definitely kickstart your study with the DSI Comedy Training Center if you plan to move to the land of Sweet Tea and vinegar based BBQ.
