Fucking Loved it.
I recognized "Raiders of the Lost Ark" Nazi Theme, "Pearl Harbor" and "Armageddon" tracks as the score. And they were all used very, very well.
Great video.
Loved everything about it.
Thanks for posting that, Sammy!

The only thing that rocked about Sky Captain were the tiny elephants.

On his site, the lead animator stated that it took him about 5 years to get that film finished.
I thought that was enormously entertaining, especially for a Monday morning!
Gosh, I'm not sure what to say. I thought it was ok.
The animation was really nice. But the script/voice acting was so poor in comparison. Why would you go to all that trouble - 5 years! - to do such cool video work, then not put the effort into the other stuff.

How does the robot get from the cliffs of Dover to the Pacific coast, possibly even Hawaii? It seems improbable that the robot walked all that way; it's demonstrated lack of speed would leave it vulnerable to submarine or destroyer attacks, and its visible weaponry would be virtually useless underwater, not to mention extraordinarily vulnerable to salt water corrosion....

Probably the biggest risk this small digital studio took was to invest 5 years in a project like this, when CGI and animation technology is growing exponentially. Right now, it's a cinema sequence that's marginally better than most video game animation. If he was going for photographic realism, he falls short when it comes to human anatomy. The rest looks finely done, but the people are on par with the Final Fantasy or Halo games.
Not coincidentally, the CGI software that's seen huge strides in the last 5 years is motion-capture. It would have helped, but there's still the vague plastic-like quality of the guys that doesn't quite sell it as cinematic. Still a little too 'action figure'.
It's quite a portfolio piece, though.
These guys should be getting work from major studios.
