The following is the Mims song. Now, anyone who knows Lauren Glass knows that she is straight up street. But this guy is spittin' lyrics that I'm having trouble decoding. If I'm going to hear this song day and night, Glass gotsta know: WHY IS HE HOT??? Help with the following please:
"This Is Why I'm Hot"
[Chorus:]
This is why I'm Hot [2x]
This is why [2x] Uh
This is why I'm Hot (Uh)
This is why I'm Hot [2x] Whoo
This is why [2x]
This is why I'm Hot
I'm hot cause I'm fly (fly)
You ain't cause you're not (Mims)
This is why [2x]
This is why I'm hot [2x]
[Verse 1:]
This is why I'm hot
I don't gotta rap
I can sell a mill saying nothing on the track
I represent New York
I got it on ma back
Niggas say that we lost it
So I'ma bring it back
I love the Dirty, Dirty
Cause niggas show me love
The ladies start to bounce
As soon as I hit the club
But in the Midwest
They love to take it slow
So when I hit the H <--------- What's the "H"?
I watch you get it on the floor
And if you needed it hyphy <----- hyphy?
I take it to the Bay
Frisco to Sac-town
They do it everyday
Compton to Hollywood
As soon as I hit L.A.
I'm in that Low, Low
I do it the Cali way
And when I hit Chi
People say that I'm fly
They like the way I dress they like
(They like my) my attire move crowds from side to side
They ask me how I do it and simply I reply...
[Chorus:]
[Verse 2:]
This is why I'm hot
Catch me on the block
Every other day
Another bitch another drop <------ is "drop" the sexual intercourse?
16 bars, 24 pop <---- pop as in soda???
44 songs, nigga gimme what you got
I'm in there driving cars
Push 'em off the lot
I'm into shutting stores down so i can shop
If you need a bird I can get it chopped <----like Boston Market?
Tell me what you need you know i get 'em by the flock
I call ma homie black meet on the ave
I hit Wash Heights with the money in the bag
We into big spinners
See my pimping never dragged
Find me wit different women that you niggas never had
For those who say they know me know I'm focused on ma cream <---??
player you come between you'd better focus on the beam
I keep it so mean the way you see me lean
And when say I'm hot my nigga dis is what I mean
[Chorus:]
[Verse 3:]
This is why I'm hot
Shorty see the drop
Ask me what I paid and I say yea I paid a quap <--- how much?
And den I hit the switch that take away the top
So chicks 'round the way they call me cream of the crop
They hop in the car
I tell 'em "all aboard"
We hit the studio they say they like how I record
I gave you black train and I did you wrong<--is "black train" a naughty part?
So everytime I see 'em man they tell me that's their song
They say I'm the bomb
They love the way the charm hanging from the neck
And compliments the arm which compliments the ear den comes the gear
So when I hit the room the shorties stop and stare
Den niggas start to hate rearrange their face
Little do they know I keep 'em things by waistside
I reply nobody gotta die
Similar to Lil wizzy cause I got that fire <--- Lil wizzy, who dat?
[Chorus:]
Thanks for your help in advance.

Wow ... I can't answer your main question, but here's a bunch of green tea-sipping intellectuals on Hyphy:

Professor, if I may, I'll field this one.
It's funny, because my posse-guys and I were just having a delightful chuckle on this very subject. The object of our derision, naturally, was the fact that certain radio stations in our vicinity are fearfully censoring the reference to "tha H".
And, of course, rightfully so...fearing FCC sanctions, most broadcasts choose to err on the safety when it comes to perceived references to narcotics. They assumed, understandably, that "tha H" (and the fact that the song takes a brief, slow turn in that instant) is, specifically, heroin.
But allow me to set this misconception to right.
"Tha H" is referring to Houston, and the chop-n-screw style of mixing (made famous, of course, by the late DJ Screw). Specifically, the song is slowed-down...think of the hit song "Laffy Taffy" as an example of Houston-style.
The FCC wouldn't know this, and neither would many of the listening audience, so this would account for the censorship of the reference during prime-time broadcast.
Now, let's have another pitcher of purple, and watch the match in peace, shall we?

May have answered my own question about the black train. Ladies and gentlemen, my new favorite song:
"Big Black Train"

Drop = a drop-top = a convertible.
Bird = a kilogram of coke (just over 2 pounds). Chopping usually refers to breaking that amount down to smaller amounts to sell to folks for easier distribution or personal use, or the process of cutting up the crack that's resulted from cooking up the coke.
Gwap = some large sum of money
Black Train, as you mentioned, an earlier Mims song.
Lil Weezy = Lil Wayne, with a tossed in reference to Weezy's song "Fireman." (Here's a recent video of Weezy F on Rap City: http://videos.onsmash.com/v/IiMlIRPpp5HxSFS7)
As for "pop," I had to listen to the song to check out if there was an error in transcribing the lyrics - it's actually "16 bars, 24 a pop."
The standard rap verse is 16 bars long. Mims is claiming that he commands for $2400 for a verse for a guest spot or a remix.
Professor, if I may, I'll field this one.

Actually, I think the reference to "The H" is just an error in transcribing the lyrics.
Here's those lyrics:

They love to take it slow/
So when I hit the H/I watch you get it on the floor/
If you hear the clean version of the song (that's from the record company, not radio stations censoring it), it's censored right after "so when I hit the...," leaving an "h" sound - not Mims actually meaning to say "The H."
In context, I'd imagine he was meaning to say "The Hydro" - it matches the rhyme scheme (wedged between "slow" and "flo'").
Also, he's talking about being in the midwest - which Houston is not.
Also, after all of this thinking, I imagine that there's an uncensored version of the song that'll clear it all up.
(I pretty much live and die for hip hop minutiae - also, here goes the uncensored lyrics:
http://www.ohhla.com/anonymous/mims/mims/this_is.mim.txt . Apparently, he says "when I hit that shit" - not "hydro" or "The H" *insert The Price is Right Brass Band*)

Jose, seriously, you're awesome. I'd drop a gwap for your 16 bars any day. Now, if I could just find a black train to ride...

I'd like to raise a glass of Tanqueray and peach nectar to my CIN colleagues for this lucid, and most informative discussion.
I was saddened by the recent announcement that only those individuals who enjoyed rap & hip hop in the year 1989* were rightly entitled to savor and discuss such work today. But no, I see the open exchange of ideas continues anon, and for that, I am very glad.
Carry on!
Kate
*I remember 1989 very well. It that was the year I discovered the existence of The Beatles--and their break up 19 years earlier, and the death of their lead singer 9 years previous. The following year, I would discover the long-since-disbanded The Police.

I know way less about this than I should to post -
but in this instance, isn't "another drop" meaning album release - as in, this album drops april 16th - which would make more sense followed by "16 bars, 24 a pop" than the idea of another convertible in that context?

"Drop" is indeed used in reference to releasing an album. (cf. Large Professor on "Keep It Rollin'" off of the seminal Midnight Marauders - "Queens represent - buy the album when I drop it." The album he referred to, by the way didn't come out for nearly 10 years.)
In context with the verse, though:
This is why I'm hot, catch me on the block/
Every other day, another bitch, another drop/
He's basically bragging about the frequency with which he switches up his ladies and his cars.
Later on, he mentions:
This is why I'm hot, shorty see the drop/
Asked me what I paid, and I say yeah, I paid a gwap/
As a sidenote, I guarantee that this is the most attention that Mims' lyrics will ever receive, which is funny.

Aw man! There was this great article in a Houston paper that had Venn diagrams charting out this song and "why he's hot." I wish I still had it. It was pretty good. The closing line of the article was something like: "'I can make a mil' saying nothing on the track.' And he did."
I thought this song was a joke when I first heard it! (Now it sticks in my head when I jog outdoors. Go figure.)
