There are craploads of extra cops and traffic personnel.
And lots of "No Parking By Police Order" signs all over.

Anybody know what's up?

Ok, I think I just answered my own question. I found on NBC5.com that Dick Cheney is in town today, and a huge motorcade just drove past my office on Michigan Ave.

He's meeting with the only 7 Republicans who voted for Bush in Cook County in the 2004 election.

They're all on the Editorial staff at the Chicago Tribune.

Yes, that very same one that endorsed Bush in 2004, before Cook County turned out the highest percentage of Kerry votes of any county in the country.
