This is clearly another inane waste of academic resources for advertising purposes- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/11/world/europe/11bacon.html.
That being said, why don't the English understand that the perfect bacon sandwich needs lettuce with a crispness similar to the bacon, but which explodes with moisture when you bite into it? And don't even get me started on the tomato... I mean if you're going to spend money researching this stuff, you should do it right.
