So Erin and I just welcomed a Wii into our home. Yay! The problem: we are unable to connect it to our wireless internet. The Nintendo support site receommended we use a friend's connection to download an update that would help the Wii communicate with our router. Done. But we are still getting an error message. Anyone had this problem and overcome it?

What have you done with your router so far? Have you tried unplugging/replugging it? Does it have a password?

It does have a password, which doesn't seem to be a problem. It gets to the connection test and then comes up with the error message and says to go to Nintendo support, which tells us that our type of router tends to have problems with the Wii. Not sure if Erin's tried the unplugging part.

Yeah, it's always worth power-cycling a router. That solves a lot of connectivity problems with laptops and routers, anyway.
You can also try logging into your router with a laptop and changing the frequency it's broadcasting on... or just get a new router. What brand is it?

You probably still have time to exchange the Wii and get a 360. Just in time for Halo 3!
But seriously, fowlkes, there seems to be a router firmware issue according to the Nintendo boards:

Yeah, get a 360! You won't have any technical problems other than it melting and Microsoft kidnapping it and never letting you see it again.

Woa there, Goody. The Wii and I have already bonded. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to give it a shot tonight.
you need to put in your password for the wireless to work.

Have a look at www.wiierrorcodes.com . It appears you might have SPI enabled in your router and it thinks it is really smart protecting you from evil Wii packets from the internet :) Try turning it off.
And --> Goody, why wait for Halo when Metroid Prime Corruption is already out?
