Hi Folks!
Aaron Graham here. I would love to coach your ensemble, direct your show, and/or help you create original material.
While I would be happy to work with your non-musical improv or sketch group, I specialize in singprov, "improvised musical theater," musical sketch comedy, and helping create fully-scripted material, from sketch to long-form musicals.
I enjoy helping ensembles achieve "real" emotional moments on stage that are then heightened to the broader heighty-heights of musical theater. That's my jam, yo. We often find great comedy and satire by infusing improv choices with the overwrought importance inherent to the musical genre. (In other words, you can decide to make ANYTHING important on stage and the audience will enjoy coming along for the ride.)
Some background info:
I have over twelve years experience as an actor, singer and improviser. (You can read about all that jazz at www.AaronGraham.net (http://www.AaronGraham.net).)
I have been teaching in the Music Program (http://www.secondcity.com/training/chicago/faculty/detail/1492/) at The Second City Training Center since 2008, with the exception of a jaunty stint when I was working in LA in 2010-2011.
I've had the honor of co-teaching and working with (and/or learning from) some of the awesomest music directors in our field, including (in no particular order): Jeff Bouthiette, Stephanie McCullough Vlcek, Amanda Murphy, Jonathan Wagner, Mike Descoteaux, Aaron Benham, Scott Passarella, and others.
My improv training includes The Second City Conservatory, iO Chicago, Annoyance, and UCB Theatre LA.
Some improv groups I've performed with:
Infinite Sundaes (a SCTC musical house ensemble)
Jazz Hands Across America
Forte
Baby Wants Candy
CSz LA's Sunday Team
Loki (Harold Team at iO West)
Dually Noted (long-form group coached by John Lutz)
Some shows I've directed:
Christmas in Chicago (The Fine Print Theatre Co)
Hollow Hills High School (SCTC MI graduation show)
The Timeless Tale of New Portsmouth (SCTC MI graduation show)
Listen Kid... (by Peter Gwinn and Stephanie McCullough Vlcek)
States: The Musical! (Donny's Skybox)
Please note: To do fully-realized musical work, your ensemble will also need to hire a music director/accompanist. While I play some piano and guitar, I want to give you my full attention and that's hard to do if I'm tinkering with chord changes. (Although in a pinch I can get on the keys for your group for a rehearsal.) I would be glad to make recommendations of MDs as needed.
If you have any questions or have an idea for a project, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
Email me at: Aaron [at] AaronGraham [dot] net.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to working and playing with you!
Best,
Aaron
