I love how half this thing is about how this gaming system will be real good at playing movies. I bought a gaming console, I think Sony over-estimates the amount of people who buy next-gen systems to play HDmovies. Sure they have blue-ray, I guess you will have to watch alot of movies after you beat the one good game they have.
Gears of War > Resistance Fall of Man.

Really? Because when I first got my PS2 it was also my first DVD player and part of the reason I got it. Also considering that more people are getting HDTVs and wanting the high quality DVDs and that an actual Blue-Ray costs $1000 vs. the PS3 at $600. It just seems logical to get the PS3.

HD-DVDs and Blue Ray DVDs look like if you took a regular DVD, put it in a DVD player... and watched it. You have to be a serious nerd, social climber, or have ADD to tell the difference. I know that will eventually equal better PS3 sales, and maybe even make it the number one system, but personally I couldn't give a shit.

Blu-Ray...yet another Sony technology that they will license out of existance...like Beta, or the Mini-disc player...

No chance.
Blu-ray players outsell HD-DVD players, more film studios support Blu-Ray, new Blockbuster chains only rent Blu-Ray movies, and ultimately Blu-Ray will output better video.
And "Blu-Ray" just sounds cooler.
I'd be surprised if HD-DVD is around in 3 years.
Or just get a player that reads both formats and don't worry about it. I believe LG announced one at least year's E3 or CES or something. I would expect more companies will release them eventually as well.

Not worth the money.
Dual format players will run you at least $1100 and output, most likely (bc LG anything usually blows), average video.
If you have to own both for whatever reason, get a $500 PS3 and a good $300 HD-DVD..

You can also buy an upconverting DVD player which looks pretty good on big LCD/plasma screens. No reason to blow all that money on a console just because it has a blue ray player.
Blue ray probably will be the standard but they are a little ahead of the race. DVD's are still relativly new.
