NBC's critically hailed "30 Rock" will roll on to another season.

Peacock has given an early greenlight to the Tina Fey-Alec Baldwin starrer from Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video. Net is no doubt hoping "Rock" will follow the pattern of other slow-building NBC comedy success stories years past, including current hit "The Office."

"From the beginning, '30 Rock' has proven to be the kind of quality comedy that doesn't come around very often, and we are very pleased to have this show back for a second season," NBC Entertaimment prexy Kevin Reilly said. "We expect it to continue to build its increasingly loyal audience and become another of NBC's classic comedy series."

NBC has not yet made a decision on its other critical sensation, the family drama "Friday Night Lights."

"Rock" has averaged a 2.7 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 this season, numbers that usually would mean curtains. But skein has done a great job holding on to its various lead-ins, and rates well among the upscale auds NBC targets.

Skein has also been a buzz and awards magnet, ending up on a slew of 10 best lists, and earning Baldwin Golden Globe and SAG awards. In addition to Fey and Baldwin, "Rock" stars Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Scott Adsit, Jack McBrayer, Judah Friedlander and Rachel Dratch. Fey, Michaels, David Miner, JoAnn Alfano, Marci Klein and Robert Carlock are exec producers.

well that's a relief
i wonder...does it count ratings-wise if I DVR the show and watch it later? i never watch things when they're actually on.

what about Studio 60?

Nice quote.

Wiggling around the Hudson Theatre stage in a party frock with plunging decolletage, Tina Fey told the crowd, "I hear Aaron Sorkin is in Los Angeles wearing the same dress - but longer, and not funny."

Are you a Nielsen household? Ratings are based on selected samples...right? But I often wonder the same thing. If you are correct then I am contributing to some really embarassing shows...

Tivo does keep (allegedly anonymized) statisitics on who's watching what. I imagine that the big nets have access to that. Still not sure if they value the "Tivo Viewer" as much as the live viewer.

I have been told that getting a season pass on TiVo somehow counts toward a show's ratings. I don't know how or whether non-TiVo DVRs count, too.

And last night's Maury with Jack as Jefferson was inspired lunacy. Baldwin was so deadly serious as Jefferson. I love that guy's commitment. 30 Rock keeps me non-stop giggling in the delicious Arrested Development kind of way.

Last night's "supersize" ep was a great re-intro to the show. Office/30 Rock is a nice pairing, and I expect it to grow next season.

I might've been too cynical in the beginning, but I shouldn't have doubted the talent on this show. Last night's ep was on par with Arrested Development -- tons of laughs, coming at you at different levels and pace.

I also agree that Tracy's dream sequence was just about the most brilliant "cut-away" piece I've seen. The straight crazy juxtaposition of having "Dream Thomas Jefferson" on a notorious paternity test segment on Maury -- in concept its brilliant and it was executed flawlessly. Not only did Baldwin nail it the first time with his "when I invented America...", he also offered up the double-bird to the audience.

There were just tons of jokes that were "did they just say/do that?" awesome: Fey's sneaking into the AA meeting to learn more about her crush, Will Arnett's pitch of celebrity snuff video on mobile phones, the closing 9/11 joke, Friedlander's reveal that Two-fer's ancestor was a Confederate sympathizer -- "Hey, are those guys his prisoners?"

And of course... "KAA-rahte! KAA-rahte!"

This is fantastic news--this show is so frickin' funny I can scarcely believe it's the same format as "King of Queens." And hey, look! Lutz!

I can only hope that NBC gives the entire slate a break on the ratings. Going up against Grey's and CSI is like sending three-year-olds up against Al Quaeda.

Yeah, 30 Rock has grown a lot on me. I didn't really get what they were going for during the first couple episodes, but they've hit their stride, and I am loving it now. Mac already touched on the memorable moments for me - 9/11, confederate officer, Jefferson, etc.

Glad to hear they're extending!

I agree with CareBear. Sudekis' man on the street commercial was the funniest thing on primetime since Seinfeld.
