Literary Agent, writers!!!!

Okay, very important. Does anyone know any legit literary agents? I've tried looking online, but the lists are too long. Also there are other lists that will discredit some agencies from the original lists as frauds, etc.

If nobody viewing this knows any legit agencies, how about this:

Does anyone know the best way to get in touch with or find literary agents?

I only know about media writing agents. In that case, you can look up agents on the Writer's Guild website.

If the agent is a WGA (writer's guild) franchise, you can almost always bet they are legit. I don't know anything about book writing agents.

Finding the agents is the easy part. Having them pay attention and read your work is a bit more difficult. I spent a good chunk of time submitting samples and letters. I made a few contacts and got some feedback, but the best luck I've had is through back channels. Don't be afraid to ask people to read and refer your work. This guy I'm talking with now is some washed-up old fart who used to be a writer on "Growing Pains" and "WKRP". Hahahaha. Crap, I hope he doesn't read this board. :-)
