I know this was a thread just before the renovation here, but I'm looking for good, reliable, cheap movers. The ones I noted from the last thread were Wolley, Jay, and Moishe's. Any thoughts on those and any others to recommend?
Thanks

Moishe's did an amazing job for me. A really nice woman came by to see everything herself and give an estimate. The movers were incredibly hard working and professional, and they finished way ahead of schedule and under estimate. I've passed them on to other folks and heard nothing but great things back.

I have had professional movers for each of my moves in chicago and after switching to Jay, I have to question what I was thinking with hiring the others. Jay was the lowest quoted price I've gotten (and I've acquired much more after each move) and they actually charged me what they quoted. unheard of! they came highly recommended to me and i have continued to send others there way and no complaints thusfar.
I do not know the other 2 on your list, but I can tell you the most important thing is to tell (whomever you choose)as accurately as possible the amount of furniture/boxes you have. Help them and yourself so that they can estimate an appropriate price and time frame.

Thanks for the moving advice, CIN! I had to choose a random moving company in a pinch because we had to move on semi-short notice.
I went with Jay Movers, because they could fit us into their schedule.
Unfortunately, they were three hours late showing up. They were extremely nice about it and they worked VERY fast. They kept apologizing too. Almost to the point where it was awkward. They also discounted the travel charge for us, and gave us "insurance" for free.
Shortly after they finished the job, we discovered we were missing some sofa cushions. I frantically called the office (keep in mind this is 8:30pm on a Saturday night) and there was actually someone there. He paged the driver to turn around, and we got all of our stuff.
Despite those minor setbacks, I was thrilled with their service. Hopefully we won't be moving again for a good while, but when we do, we will no doubt use Jay Movers.
Thanks, CIN.

Just wanted to mention this site I've used - Imove.com
Local moving companies (http://www.imove.com) in your area are easy to find on iMove.com

if its a bigger move or long distance i would recommend Allied movers. i found them through this forum where people post their experiences with moving companies: allied movers reviews (http://alliedvan.wordpress.com/2009/01/05/allied-van-lines-reviews/)
hope that helps you guys :)
